Aristotle suggests that a hero of a tragedy must evoke in the audience a sense of pity or fear,saying,"the change of fortune presented must not be the spectacle of a virtuous man brought from properity to adversity."
This is why Aristotle points out the simple fact that"The change of fortune should be not from bad tp good,but,reversely from good to bad."
For example,King Oedipus kills his father from impulse and marries his mother out of ignorance.
※Tragic Flaw(Tragic Error)
Aristotle description of the term,translated by S.H.Butcher as an error of judgment,allows room for interpretations that include a mistake of fact,a tendency towards certain mistakes because of moral weakness,or a combination of the two in varying degress.
※hubris means extreme pride or self-confidence.When it offends the God oa ancient Greece,it is usually pnished. Hubris is usually perceived as a characteristic of an individual rather than a group,although the group the offender belongs to may suffer consequences from wrongful act.
※Sphinx is a mythical creature with, as a minimum,the body of a lion and a human head.It is mythicised as treacherous and merciless.Those who cannot answer its riddle suffer a fate typical in such mythological stories,as they are killed and eaten by this ravenous monster.This deadly version of a sphinx appears in the myth and drama of theOedipus.
