For example,Homer's Odyssey begins at that he is held captive on Calypso's island.

(from Latin,deus=god,ex=from,machina=a device)
the term was coined from the conventions of Greek tragedy,where a machine is used to bring actors playing gods onto the stage.
A frequently cited example is Euripides's Medea.
※The golden fleece(ram)
In Greek mythology,the Golden Fleece which was held in Colchis.The fleece is a symbol of authority and kingship.It figures in the tale of the hero Jason and his band of Argonauts,who sets out the quest for the fleece by order of King Pelias.Through the help of Medea,they acquire the Gloden Fleece.

In euripides's play Medea,Jason leaves Medea when Creon,King of Corinth,offers him his daughter,Glauce.The play tells of Medea avenging her husband's betrayal by slaying their children.
※Aeson was locked by Pelias who was power-hungry and he wished to gain dominion over all of Thessaly.Aeson sent Jason to Chiron to be educated while Pelias,afraid that he would be overthrown,was warned by an oracle to beware a man wearing one sandal.
During Jason's absence for finding Golden Fleece,Pelias intended to kill Aeson.However he commited suicide.
